Meet Archie Rowntree – PGA Assistant Professional
Archie Rowntree is a key member of the professional team at Glen Ient Golf, based at Ilkley Golf Club in West Yorkshire.
Currently progressing through his PGA qualifications, Archie combines his passion for golf with a commitment to developing the next generation of golfers.
Having successfully completed his first year of PGA training, Archie continues to develop his coaching expertise while delivering individual golf lessons, leading academy programmes and supporting golfers of all ages and abilities.
Working alongside PGA Head Professional Glen Ient, Archie plays a leading role in junior golf development and the continued growth of our golf academies.
Junior Golf Academy Lead
As the lead coach for our Junior Golf Academy, Archie is passionate about introducing young players to golf and helping them develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment of the game.
From complete beginners taking their first swings to aspiring competitive juniors, Archie’s coaching focuses on creating a positive and structured learning environment.
Through regular junior coaching sessions, holiday golf camps and progressive development programmes, Archie helps young golfers build strong foundations and work towards their individual goals.
Our aim is simple: make golf fun, accessible and rewarding while creating a clear pathway for junior golfers to progress.
Operation 36 Golf Academy – Learn Golf by Playing Golf
Archie also leads our Operation 36 Golf Academy at Ilkley Golf Club, bringing an exciting and structured approach to learning the game.
Operation 36 is an internationally recognised golf development programme designed to help golfers improve through achievable goals, structured coaching and on-course experiences.
Rather than focusing solely on the driving range, Operation 36 encourages golfers to develop their skills by playing the game.
Players begin close to the hole and work towards shooting a score of 36 over nine holes. As they achieve their goals, they progressively move further back, developing the skills and confidence needed to play the full course.
With small coaching groups and a clear progression pathway, the programme provides an engaging way for junior golfers and beginners to learn, practise and measure their improvement.
Under Archie’s guidance, golfers can enjoy a structured journey from their first golf lesson towards becoming confident, independent players.
Ladies’ Golf Academy and Beginner Coaching
Alongside his junior development responsibilities, Archie also leads ladies’ beginner coaching and supports our Ladies’ Golf Academy at Ilkley Golf Club.
These programmes are designed to help golfers develop their skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.
From learning the fundamentals to gaining confidence on the golf course, Archie provides coaching tailored to each golfer’s experience and ambitions.
Our ladies’ coaching programmes combine technical development, structured practice and opportunities to put new skills into action.
TrackMan Golf Lessons in Ilkley
Archie also delivers individual golf lessons using our indoor TrackMan 4 Performance Centre and outdoor practice facilities at Ilkley Golf Club.
By combining professional coaching with launch monitor technology and video analysis, golfers can better understand their technique, track improvements and develop greater consistency.
Whether working on driving, iron play, short game or overall performance, Archie focuses on helping golfers make meaningful improvements that transfer onto the course.
Developing the Next Generation of Golfers in West Yorkshire
At Glen Ient Golf, junior development is a major priority, and Archie plays a central role in delivering that vision.
Through the Junior Golf Academy, Operation 36, school partnerships and individual coaching, we aim to provide a clear development pathway for young golfers throughout Ilkley, Leeds and West Yorkshire.
From picking up a golf club for the first time to gaining a handicap and progressing into club competitions, our programmes are designed to support every stage of a young golfer’s journey.
