Ilkley Golfers Making Their Mark In the USA
It's fantastic to see Harry Richmond, Huey Cunningham and Corey Canning all making such impressive starts to their college golf journeys in America!
Three Ilkley golfers, representing three different colleges, are already producing some outstanding performances across the Atlantic.
Harry Richmond – Hutchinson Community College
Harry finished 2nd individually at 8-under-par across three rounds, helping his team secure a record-breaking victory with the largest winning margin in the college's history!
Huey Cunningham – Eckerd College
Huey has continued to produce some excellent golf, regularly posting scores under par and helping Eckerd College set a new single-round team scoring record of 272!
Corey Canning – Chowan University
Corey earned his first start for the university's golf team and certainly made the most of his opportunity, securing a top-20 individual finish in a fantastic start to his college career.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Seeing Harry, Huey and Corey progressing through the American college golf system is a huge inspiration for our younger members and has been one of the driving forces behind the launch of Ilkley Golf College, in partnership with Ilkley Grammar School.
The programme aims to help more talented young golfers combine their education with competitive golf and explore opportunities to follow similar pathways in the future.
Three Ilkley golfers, three exciting journeys and three fantastic examples for the next generation!
Keep up the brilliant work, lads! Everyone back at Ilkley is following your progress and cheering you on! 👏

- WHAT IF IT’S NOT JUST YOUR SWING?
Have you worked on the same fault for months or even years, but nothing seems to change?
Or you know exactly what your coach is asking you to do… but you simply can’t make your body do it?
As a TPI-qualified PGA Head Professional, Glen Ient has a background in coaching golfers with a wide range of physical capabilities and limitations.
The important thing is that a physical limitation doesn’t mean you can’t improve and it certainly doesn’t mean we need to completely rebuild your golf swing.
Sometimes it’s about understanding how your body moves, what it can comfortably do and then finding the most effective swing for you.
Where further support would be beneficial, we also have trusted contacts within the industry for follow-up sessions and specialist professional advice.
Understand the golfer. Understand the movement. Then coach the swing. ⛳️
- THE JOURNEY STARTS HERE
A fantastic first group session for our Ilkley Golf College students, delivered in partnership with Ilkley Grammar School and Ilkley Golf Club!
The programme provides young golfers with a unique opportunity to combine their education with competitive golf, helping them develop the skills, discipline and experience needed to balance academic studies with their golfing ambitions.
Our opening session focused on individual goal setting and development planning, looking at where each student is currently, what they want to achieve and how their coaching, practice and competition schedules can work alongside their school commitments.
Throughout the academic year, students will benefit from group coaching, monthly individual lessons, competitive fixtures and regular progress reviews, ensuring they have a clear pathway to improving their game.
For those aspiring to secure a US college golf scholarship, the programme also provides valuable experience of balancing education and competitive golf, offering a taste of what life as a student-athlete could look like. 🇺🇸
We're really looking forward to following their progress throughout the year and helping the next generation of golfers achieve their potential!
Study. Train. Compete. Review. Progress. 🔄
- PRACTICE WITH PURPOSE!
Are you actually improving when you practise, or are you just hitting golf balls?
One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is heading to the practice ground without a clear goal.
Quality over quantity, every time!
Have a goal
Know exactly what you’re working on before you start.
Focus on one thing
Avoid trying to fix five different parts of your swing in one session.
Measure your progress
Use targets, TrackMan data or simple challenges to see whether you’re improving.
Make it realistic
Change clubs, pick different targets and practise the shots you’ll actually face on the course.
Add pressure
Give yourself a challenge. Can you hit 7 out of 10 shots within your target area?
Remember, practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent!
30 minutes of focused, structured practice can be far more beneficial than two hours of aimlessly hitting balls.
Next time you head to the range, ask yourself: What am I trying to achieve today
